In The Legend of the Blue Sea episode 12, it picks up where it left off in episode 11. In the previous episode, Heo Joon Jae (Lee Min Ho) was arrested by the police, without Shim Chung’s knowledge.
Shim Chung noticed the pink octopus stuffed toy lying on the road. She picked it up, while Heo Joon Jae was in the police car. However, he managed to make the call to her so she would not wait for him. Unwittingly, she got in Ma Dae Young’s taxi.
Heo Joon Jae was able to convince the police that Ma Dae Young was after him. Therefore, he asked them to place check points and get back up. However, when they got to the abandoned hospital where the baddie brought Shim Chung to check if she was really a mermaid, he got away. It was because Shim Chung bluffed him that she would erase memories if he touched her.
Heo Joon Jae hugged her when he found her weak and traumatized. He brought her home. He talked to the police afterward to help them catch Ma Dae Young. However, they still had to understand why the latter was after him.
Later, Heo Joon Jae with his gang and Shim Chung and Cha Si-Ah celebrated Christmas together. All the while, Shim Chung had conflicting thoughts about his actions toward her, without knowing that he could hear her thoughts.
Meanwhile, Jin Joo, Cha Si-Ah’s sister-in-law, invited Heo Joon Jae’s stepmother to dinner. She got drunk and said that the latter seduced her husband and wrecked his family.
Cha Si-Ah also got drunk, together with Tae Oh. She called Heo Joon Jae talking about her feelings for him. However, he dismissed it and ended the call.
Then Heo Joon Jae went to his room only to find the depressed Shim Chung. She had all the questions in her head, which he could hear. In the end, he kissed her forehead, which silenced her thoughts. Then he told her not to think and kissed her on the lips. It was the scene where The Legend of the Blue Sea episode 12 closed.
