Lady Gaga has Mental Disorder, Raped when she was 19

Who knew Lady Gaga underwent such a traumatizing experience when she was 19? People only knew her with her hit songs like Poker Face, Alejandro, Bad Romance and her latest Perfect Illusion. But only two years ago that people learned of her devastating experience when she revealed it.

According to CNN, Lady Gaga revealed her mental disorder or mental illness, post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, to the young LGBT people last month. It was when she visited a homeless shelter for young LGBT.

In a TV interview, the singer said that she suffered from a mental illness, particularly PTSD. She also revealed that she had never spoken about it to anyone before.

The 30-year-old American Horror Story actress first publicly spoke about the rape in 2014. She was only 19 at the time when she was sexually assaulted. She further said that she blamed herself and did not even tell anyone about it for seven years, BBC reported.

The visit was a taped segment on NBC’s Today show on Friday. She visited the center as part of a collaboration between the NBC show and her foundation called Born This Way Foundation.

During her visit, she brought along some gifts, clothing and donuts. She also spent some hours there as she shared own experiences and struggles, as well as her battle with PTSD.

“My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma of others,” the singer said on the show. “I told the kids today that I suffer from a mental illness. I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told that to anyone before, so here we are,” she added.

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation is a non-profit organization, which focuses on youth empowerment as well as issues such as mentoring, anti-bullying, well-being and career development.
