In Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (a.k.a. Hwarang: The Beginning) episode 13, Silla is hinted to be in the verge of war against Baekje. The latter is another kingdom with strong warriors at the time.
The Hwarang warriors would face another challenge in Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (a.k.a. Hwarang: The Beginning) episode 13. As the promo goes, it shows the Baekje King drawing the string of the bow. He said, “Would not war be better? I know I can win.” Meanwhile, Ban Ryu’s (Do Ji Han) adoptive father is focused, saying “Will it be war or amity?” This is most probably directed to the Queen Regent. Perhaps she would think rationally that war is not good for Silla Kingdom.
Later, Ah Ro (Go Ara) is seen stopping Sun Woo (Park Seo Joon), asking him: “What did I do wrong?” and “Why would you not even look at me?” This is perhaps he is filled with thoughts of revenge that he does not let himself be distracted by his love life.
Then Princess Sook Myung is seen asking the Queen Regent, “You want me to go Baekje?” Perhaps the Queen wanted to send the princess to make a good relationship with the Baekje PRince. Clearly, they need to have good political terms with the other powerful kingdom.
Afterward, Ban Ryu seems to receive an order from his adoptive father. It might or might not be linked with the Baekje Kingdom. If it is, perhaps it is because his adoptive father plans to make him the Silla King.
Later on, the princess is heard saying to Sun Woo “I can teach you sword fighting.” She must perhaps still think that he is her brother, according to rumors. With this, she wants to protect him and thus wants to help him become a good warrior and later on a good King. Otherwise, she just favors him as a Hwarang with good potential.
However, Sun Woo is seen answering by saying “You do not who I will kill with my sword.” This meant that he would aim his sword at the King, her brother.
Then Ji Dwi (Park Hyung Sik) is seen saying “I am angry at myself because I feel like I keep putting you in danger.” This line referred to Ah Ro, with whom he was talking to.
Next in the Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (a.k.a. Hwarang: The Beginning) episode 13 promo, wherein the Hwarang Chief (Sung Dong-Il) said to Ji Dwi that “What Silla needs is the true King.” The King then asked the Hwarang Chief, “Would it be okay if I become King?” He smiled. As it is, the old man wants the King to claim the throne that was rightfully his.
Before the end of the Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (a.k.a. Hwarang: The Beginning) episode 13 promo, the princess said to Sun Woo, “You came to me.” Perhaps, he made up his mind of going to be taught how to improve his sword fighting skills.
Also, Ah Ro is shown upset. Meanwhile, the Hwarang Chief announced that, “You may face unforeseen events on the way. Remember that each time you are a Hwarang! You are the pride of Silla. Do you understand?” With this, Seo Hyun is seen kissing Ban Ryu’s cheek.
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (a.k.a. Hwarang: The Beginning) episode 13 promo ended with the Hwarang warriors shouting in unison “Yes, Master!” It could be that they will be sent to face the challenge that the Baekje Kingdom poses. Or, they would have a different challenge altogether.
All this will be unveiled in the next episode. Watch Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (Hwarang: The Beginning) every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. KST on KBS channel. Episode 13 will air on Jan. 30.
