Big Hit Entertainment Ensures It Will Protect BTS Against Online Attackers

Famous South Korean boy band BTS has been in the news lately not only because of their achievements in the Korean pop scene but mainly due to personal attacks and false statements being thrown at them recently.

On Nov. 10, 2016, management agency Big Hit Entertainment said that it will take legal actions for defamation to protect BTS against netizens who caused these malicious rumors.

Through its official Twitter page, the agency released an official statement announcing, “we will take strong legal action against malicious comments and false rumors about BTS members.”

Big Hit said that the agency and the BTS members have been open to constructive criticisms in the past, but this is just enough.

“BTS members have suffered from rumors and malicious comments for a long time, so we have decided to take strong measures against them.” The agency added, “we think we can no longer put up with distorted and flawed rumor and malicious comments that some netizens make.”

The management likewise ensured that it will protect its artists and that it is currently taking measures against these personal attacks.

Aside from the official statement, the management agency also requested for submission of evidence concerning these false information and malicious comments, as per SBS.

Here’s the official statement, as translated on K-popism:

“Hello. This is Big Hit Entertainment.

From November 10, we will take strong legal action against malicious comments and false rumors about BTS members.

BTS members have suffered from rumors and malicious comments for a long time, so we have decided to take strong measures against them. Big Hit Entertainment and all BTS members have put much effort to be open to criticism that would help us for further growth. However, we think we can no longer put up with distorted and flawed rumor and malicious comments that some netizens make.

According to recent rulings by the court regarding this defamation issues, they can punish the netizens with imprisonment. We are now under the process of taking legal steps to protect the rights of our artists. We inform that we will take every legal measure to respond to defaming rumors.”

It can be recalled that this is not the first time that a Korean talent agency has initiated legal action against netizens for online attacks. Itechpost cites Lee Min Ho’s agency, MYM Entertainment, which also did the same to protect its artist. “Descendants of the Sun” fame Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo also filed suit regarding false stories that were spread about them and their relationship.
